Autism Awareness Month is April and is coming up quick. I have some close friends that have some amazing kids that have Autism. I made these candles for them to show my support of them and their kids.
Any child with a special need is a gift and deserves to be celebrated! They are stronger, braver, and kinder than us typical people. We truly have a lot to learn from them!!
Equipment Needed:
* 1 Jar Candle that the label can be removed
* Autism Images that you like
* Regular Printing Paper (I tried tracing paper thinking because it was thinner, it would look better but it becomes really foggy after using the mod podge)
* Mod Podge (I just love this stuff)
* Small Paint Brush
* Puzzle Charm (I found this one at Hobby Lobby for $1.97)
* Ribbon (I found the puzzle ribbon at Walmart for about $3)
* Thread
* Sewing Needle
* Glue Gun
Instructions:
* Remove any labels from candle.
* Print out images that you like in the size that you want them to fit the candle and carefully cut out.
* With small paint brush, brush mod podge on the back of image and align on candle. Smooth out. Continue until all images are where you want them to be.
* With small paint brush, brush mod podge on the top of image to seal and along the edges overlapping the candle a little bit. Do this gently to make sure the colors don't run together
* Let it all dry before trying to put the ribbon on or you will keep sticking your fingers in the glue..:-)
* Cut our a length of ribbon that will fit around the rim of the candle and glue gun it into place where the edges meet.
* Create an "Awareness Ribbon" and hot glue the middle so it doesn't come undone. Make sure not to let it go over the top of the candle to far. When the candle is lit, you don't want it to catch the ribbon on fire..:-)
* With the needle and thread, sew the charm onto the Awareness Ribbon to hold it in place. It's great to add the charm because it's something they can keep when the candle is gone.
* Hot glue the Awareness Ribbon where the ribbon that goes around the rim meets to hide the seam.
That's it!!...It's that easy!!...Give them away to friends that have these special kids. They will really appreciate the fact that you thought of them and support them.
